Quartet of Gr.1 Winning Fillies Headline Outstanding Tattersalls December Mares Sale

A truly outstanding collection of fillies and mares have been catalogued for the forthcoming Tattersalls December Mares Sale, headlined by the fourth renewal of the acclaimed Sceptre Sessions. The December Mares Sale will take place Monday 1^st December to Wednesday 3^rd December with the Sceptre Sessions on Monday 1^st December and Tuesday 2^nd December. The catalogue for Europe’s premier breeding stock sale numbers 885 lots and can be viewed online at www.tattersalls.com.

Heading the stellar cast for the 2025 renewal are four-time Group 1 winning filly PORTA FORTUNA, the first Cartier Champion Three-Year-Old Filly ever to be offered for sale as a filly in/out of training, and the outstanding Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes winner TAMFANA, placed in two Classics. They will be joined by the three-year-old Group 1 Prix de l’Opera winner BARNAVARA and star international filly CHOISYA, winner of the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes. They are joined by an impressive total of 25 Group and Listed winning race fillies to be offered across the two Sceptre Sessions.  

Other star performers include the top class French filly SURVIE, beaten just a head in the Group 1 Prix de Diane, the Group 2 winner and multiple Group 1 placed racemare TIFFANY and Group 3 winning three-year-olds ATSILA, third in the Group 1 Matron Stakes, and Group 2 runner up SAQQARA SANDS. They will be joined by the promising Group 3 Atalanta Stakes winner and Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes fourth LADY OF SPAIN, the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes winner FAIR ANGELLICA, top class sprinter RAGE OF BAMBY, a Group 3 winner and fourth in the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup, and the Group 1 Irish Oaks placed PURPLE LILY. Nine further Group and Graded Stakes winning race fillies catalogued include DIVINA GRACE, KARMOLOGY, MAGICAL HOPE, PRINCESS CHILD, SEA THE BOSS, SPIRITUAL, TAX IMPLICATIONS and VERA’S SECRET.

Multiple top class racemares will be offered in foal led by outstanding Group 2 winning sprinter AZURE BLUE and the Group 3 Pride Stakes winner LADY BOBA who will both be offered in foal to sire of the moment NIGHT OF THUNDER. Joining them will be the Group 1 1000 Guineas third QABALA, whose yearling sold for 2,200,000 guineas at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, who will be offered in foal to TOO DARN HOT, the Grade 1 runner up OLIVIA MARALDA who will be offered in foal to MEHMAS and the Group 2 Balanchine Stakes winner VELOCIDAD, in foal to international sire sensation JUSTIFY. 

The Sceptre Sessions also feature mares from many of the best families in the European stud book including MAGIC RING, a DUBAWI own-sister to Group 1 winner HENRY LONGFELLOW out of the outstanding racemare MINDING, MARIINSKY THEATRE, by DUBAWI out of Group 1 Irish Oaks winner ATHENA from the family of breed-shaping broodmare URBAN SEA, and MAYFAIR, a JUSTIFY daughter of Champion Two-Year-Old filly CLEMMIE, both offered in foal to WOOTTON BASSETT. They will be joined by CHERE DARMOISELLE, a half-sister to dual Champion TOO DARN HOT out of brilliant racemare and producer DAR RE MI, offered in foal to ZARAK, and CALIYZA, a half-sister to the Aga Khan Stud’s Group 1 Champion Stakes winner CALANDAGAN offered in foal to his sire GLENEAGLES.

The Juddmonte consignment is a perennial highlight of the December Mares Sale and for good reason, with the dam of dual 2025 Group 1 winner OMBUDSMAN sourced from the Juddmonte draft in 2017 for 25,000 guineas. This year’s draft numbers 24 regally bred fillies and mares with eye-catchers including CLERISY, the dam of Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner EXPERT EYE, in foal to HAVANA GREY and STAR MAGNOLIA, a half-sister to Group 1 winning filly BABOUCHE, and dual Group producer ZATSFINE, a half-sister to Group/Grade 1 winners PROVISO and BYWORD, both offered in foal to the peerless FRANKEL.

Highlights among the customary selection of well-related fillies include the Listed performers AROLLA, by KINGMAN out of a FRANKEL half-sister to Group 1 winner SPECIAL DUTY, and REVOKE, by BLUE POINT out of a sister to multiple Group winner FAMOUS NAME. They will be joined by the unbeaten GOLDEN SPLENDOUR, a daughter of Group 1 winner WINSILI, and the highly rated FRANKEL filly CONTINUITE, a granddaughter of Group 1 winner PASSAGE OF TIME, as well as further representatives of exceptional Juddmonte families including PARTICIPLE, by FRANKEL out of a half-sister to Champion KINGMAN, and LUDIC, a WOOTTON BASSETT daughter of Group 1 placed mare JUBILOSO from the family of FRANKEL.

The draft from Godolphin is always equally sought after with BE YOUR BEST, LOS ANGELES and TRAWLERMAN among the Group/Grade 1 winners in 2025 out of Godolphin fillies and mares sold at previous December Mares Sales. Eye-catchers among the broodmares in this year’s draft of 29 lots are Group 3 winner LAUGH ALOUD, a half-sister to Group 1 winner DEBUSSY, the Epsom Oaks third LADY OF DUBAI, offered in foal to BAAEED, and the Listed winner LUNAR MARIA, a granddaughter of Champion Filly MIESQUE who will be offered in foal to PINATUBO. Joining them will be well-related daughters of top sires DUBAWI, FRANKEL, LOPE DE VEGA, NIGHT OF THUNDER and SEA THE STARS.

The Castlebridge Consignment, the leading consignor at the December Mares Sale in 2024, will offer the largest consignment with a draft of 74 lots headed by a number of high class fillies in training including Listed winners BEECHWOOD, ENGLEMERE, LADY WITH THE LAMP, ONEMOREDANCE and ZIGGY’S DREAM, alongside well-bred broodmares such as PANAMA RED, a Listed winning mare from the family of the breed-shaping ALLEZ LE TROIS and CHERRY BLOSSOM, a Listed winner and second in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes, both offered in foal to FRANKEL. The second largest draft will be from Barton Sales which will offer 53 lots and their quality team includes NO WAY IT’S TODAY, a half-sister to dual Group 1 winning two-year-old PRECISE, and the Listed winner GOLDEN PASS, offered in foal to MODERN GAMES. 

Other highlights among the beautifully bred mares catalogued include FIRST FLOWER, the GALILEO own-sister to 1000 Guineas winner HERMOSA and Group 1 winners HYDRANGEA and THE UNITED STATES, who will be offered by Glenvale Stud in foal to CAMELOT. ANDROMEDA, an own-sister to Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas winner PEACEFUL will be offered in foal to WOOTTON BASSETT by Baroda Stud whose 40 lot consignment also includes the multiple Group performer FIERY LUCY. Further highlights among the fillies in training catalogued include a host of high class two-year-olds led by Monday’s Listed Criterium de Vitesse winner PEARL FORTUNE, a half-sister to Group 1 winner VENTURA STORM, as well as the Listed winners ANAISA, ARGENTINE TANGO and WOR FAAYTH and the Group 3 placed SENORITA VEGA. 

Leading domestic owner-breeders Cheveley Park Stud, Hascombe & Valiant Stud, Lanwades Stud, Meon Valley Stud, the Royal Studs, Shadwell Estate Company and Tweenhills also have significant consignments, and top American consigners Taylor Made Sales Agency will renew their presence at the December Mares Sale with a smart draft led by the outstanding Champion Three-Year-Old Filly PORTA FORTUNA.
