Tattersalls graduates enjoyed a spectacular day on Saturday with four Group 1 victories spanning three continents.

First up was the win of FIFTY STARS in the Australian Cup at Flemington which provided a deserved reward for owner Gerry Ryan who bought the horse as a yearling at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 110,000 guineas via agent John Foote. Ryan and Foote, who have also enjoyed success with Tattersalls yearling purchases SIGNOFF and FURRION, have been the pacesetters in the growing trend of buying northern hemisphere yearlings to transport directly to Australia.

The next two Group 1 winners were both at ‘Super Saturday’ at Meydan where the Tattersalls December Foal Sale graduates BARNEY ROY and MATTERHORN won the Jebel Hatta and Al Maktoum Challenge respectively. BARNEY ROY, whose Stud career was curtailed by poor fertility, was purchased at the 2014 renewal of the December Foal Sale for 30,000 guineas whilst MATTERHORN realised 70,000 guineas a year later.

The racing at Meydan also provided two Group victories for Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale purchases with WAFY and SALUTE THE SOLDIER both scoring exciting wins. WAFY, who won the Group 3  Mahab Al Shimaal for trainer Satish Seemar, was purchased at last year’s horses in training sale for just 57,000 guineas by owner Nasir Askar.

SALUTE THE SOLDIER, who scored a runaway win in the Group 3 Burj Nahaar, was also purchased at last year’s Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale where he realised 380,000 guineas to the bid of Oliver St Lawrence on behalf of trainer Fawzi Nass. He looks the horse to beat in the Group 1 Godolphin Mile on Dubai World Cup night.

River Boyne (nearest) wins the G1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile

The final of the quartet of Tattersalls victories at the highest level was RIVER BOYNE who scored a narrow victory in the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita last night. The son of DANDY MAN was another purchased at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale where he realised 70,000 guineas to Tim Cohen’s Red Baron's Barn & Rancho Temescal.

The next chance to purchase at Tattersalls is at next month’s Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale that takes place from April 13 – 15. Catalogues are online now and available from Tattersalls and Tattersalls representatives.
