The inaugural £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes will be run over 6 furlongs at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Racecourse on Saturday 10th October, 2015, with a maximum field of 30 runners and prize money down to tenth place. Prize money for the winner of the richly endowed contest will be £82,500. Commenting on the new £150,000 contest, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said; “Tattersalls sponsored sales races have been hugely popular for more than 25 years now and the new £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes looks set to be another welcome opportunity for owners to run for substantial prize money. We have revamped Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale with around 550 yearlings catalogued for the two day sale and the new £150,000 race will undoubtedly prove popular with both owners and trainers.” Michael Prosser, Head of Racing, Jockey Club East Region, added: “Newmarket and Tattersalls have a long association hosting races of this nature and the new £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes will be a welcome addition to our 2015 Autumn programme which promises to offer £4.4 million in prize money spread over 10 days.” Newmarket Trainer and former President of the National Trainers Federation Stuart Williams added his support saying; “I will certainly be buying yearlings at Book 3 of the October Yearling Sale trying to win the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes. I have always been a fan of such races and am delighted that Tattersalls has introduced such a valuable race for this sector of the market.” In addition to introducing the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes, Tattersalls has also made a change to the ever popular £1,300,000 Tattersalls Millions series for graduates of Europe’s premier yearling sale, Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The 2015/2016 Tattersalls Millions will comprise five races instead of six, with the £100,000 Tattersalls Millions Fillies’ Median Auction Stakes being dropped in favour of a single £200,000 six furlong contest for both colts and fillies. The new £200,000 Tattersalls Millions Median Auction Trophy will take place on September 19th, 2015 at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Racecourse.
