Tattersalls is to launch an all new £25,000 Bonus Scheme exclusively for horses from Book 1 of the 2015 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The Scheme will be known as the ‘Book 1 Bonus’ and will replace the five races comprising the Tattersalls Millions Series, which will conclude with the 2016 running of the Tattersalls Millions 3YO Trophy at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Racecourse.

Participating owners will receive a £25,000 bonus if their 2015 October Book 1 purchase wins a Class 2, 3 or 4 two year old maiden in Britain or an ‘Open’ two year old maiden in Ireland. The cost to enter the £25,000 Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ Scheme will be a single payment of £1,000 and the number of qualifying British and Irish two year old maiden races is expected to number in excess of 300.

Bonus Schemes have proved immensely popular with owners in recent years and the £25,000 Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ will run alongside the widely acclaimed Plus 10 Scheme which started this season. All yearlings sold, bought in or failing to meet their reserve at Book 1 of the 2015 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale will be eligible for the huge bonuses which looks set to provide even more incentives for owners and trainers to buy at Europe’s premier yearling sale.

Commenting on the new £25,000 Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;

“We are very excited to be launching the £25,000 Tattersalls October 'Book 1 Bonus'. The new scheme represents a very significant financial commitment by Tattersalls and the prospect for owners of earning prize money in excess of £30,000 for winning any of more than 300 British and Irish two year old maiden races is hugely enticing. It is fitting that the £25,000 bonuses will be won by two year olds purchased at Europe’s premier yearling sale. Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale will now not only be an owner’s best chance of buying a European Classic winner, but also probably the only chance for an owner to buy a horse which could pay for a year’s training fees by winning a maiden.”

Expanding further on the new scheme, Mahony added;

“The £25,000 Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ will complement the popular Plus 10 scheme which was launched last year and October Book 1 two year olds which win races qualified for both schemes will be rewarded with prize money the envy of all other countries in Europe and most of the rest of the world. Prize money is the lifeblood of the sport and we are proud to be introducing a Scheme which looks set to capture the imagination of owners, trainers and consignors, and which will launch the celebrations for the 250th anniversary year of the founding of Tattersalls.

“In addition to the all new £25,000 Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ we will continue to sponsor the Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes and the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes at Newmarket, the Group 3 Tattersalls Musidora and the Group 3 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes at York, and of course the Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival at the Curragh, comprising the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas and the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas."

Bill Dwan, whose Irish based Castlebridge Consignment sold 2014 QIPCO 2000 Guineas winner NIGHT OF THUNDER at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, added enthusiastic support saying;

“I honestly believe the new £25,000 Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ is a superb incentive scheme. It will be simple, affordable, and above all massively rewarding for owners. The best yearlings in Europe deserve to be running for serious prize money and the £25,000 ‘Book 1 Bonus’ achieves this objective in a manner which no other scheme ever has.”

Trainer Ed Dunlop enthused;

“I have been lucky enough to have campaigned a number of horses which have earned huge amounts of prize money on the world stage, but prize money here at maiden level has always been an issue and the prospect of an owner covering a year’s training fees by winning a two year old maiden is a very powerful incentive. This is a great scheme and I will be encouraging my owners to buy as many yearlings at Book 1 of this year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale as possible.”

Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock further endorsed the £25,000 Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ saying;

“This is a fantastic new scheme. The new £25,000 Tattersalls October ‘Book 1 Bonus’ is the sort of incentive which will surely catch the imagination of owners and, crucially, encourage them to have horses in training in the UK and Ireland rather than elsewhere. Racing here in the UK and Ireland is without doubt the best in the world and horses winning ‘Book 1 Bonuses’ are to be handsomely rewarded. Tattersalls is incredibly imaginative and generous with its sponsorship and we should all be extremely grateful for their support of our industry."
