Tattersalls Purchases Dominate Two-Year-Old Group Races on Saturday

Tattersalls graduates had a day to remember on Saturday, winning all four two-year-old Group races run in Britain and Ireland including the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes and Middle Park Stakes.


The first of the two Group 1s run at Newmarket was the Cheveley Park Stakes which went the way of Ralph Beckett’s filly LEZOO. The daughter of ZOUSTAR had won the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes on her previous start and scored an emphatic win for owners Marc Chan and Andrew Rosen. She was purchased at Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Hamish Macauley Bloodstock for 77,000 guineas from the draft of breeders Chasemore Farm. 


The other Group 1 race to feature on the Newmarket card was the Middle Park Stakes which was won by the Aidan O’Brien trained BLACKBEARD. The son of NO NAY NEVER had won the Group 1 Prix Morny on his previous start and has already won on six occasions this season. He was purchased from Norelands Stud at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale by Jamie McCalmont for 270,000 guineas on behalf of his owners Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Westerberg. 


The other two-year-old Group race at Newmarket was the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes which went the way of the Andrew Balding trained and King Power owned THE FOXES. The son of CHURCHILL out of the outstanding mare TANAGHUM was purchased by SackvilleDonald’s Alastair Donald for 440,000 guineas at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the draft of Barronstown Stud. 


The fourth of the quartet of Group winning Tattersalls two-year-olds on Saturday was the Michael O’Callaghan trained CRYPTO FORCE. The son of TIME TEST was initially sold at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale by Brook Stud to Culworth Grounds Farm for 32,000 guineas, before being purchased by Tally-Ho Stud for 65,000 guineas at Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. He was then sold again at the Guineas Breeze Up Sale where he realised 160,000 guineas to the bid of trainer Michael O’Callaghan.
