Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Purchase A Bit Of Spirit Wins Group 3 Solario Stakes

The Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale received a timely boost on Saturday when the Clive Cox trained A BIT OF SPIRIT won the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown Park for owners Paul & Clare Rooney. The son of PALACE PIER was purchased for 75,000 guineas at last year’s Somerville Yearling Sale from Ballyhimikin Stud and is one of a remarkable 41 individual Group/Listed performers from the sale since 2023. 

PALACE PIER, who has made an exciting start to his stud career with his first runners, has two yearlings catalogued for the Somerville Yearling Sale which takes place on Tuesday, 2^nd September whilst Ballyhimikin Stud offer a consignment of three lots. 

All lots in the Somerville Yearling Sale are eligible for the £200,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes and the £200,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes, with both races having received significant prizemoney increases. 

Both races are open to any yearling offered at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale, the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 3 or the Tattersalls Autumn Yearling Sale, or who is withdrawn from any of those sales and subsequently offered at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale.

The £200,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes will be run over 6 furlongs at Newmarket’s July Course on 22nd August, 2026 with the £200,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes following over 7 furlongs on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile six weeks later on 3rd October, 2026.
